About Scars

A scar is a mark left on the skin after the healing of a cut, burn or other area of wounded tissue. Because the new skin tissue isn’t aligned with old tissue, the resulting skin appears dark. Revitalizing your scarred skin to its natural condition depends on new tissue restoration and improved circulation.

Hiruscar Post Acne Launches Education Campaign to Help Malaysians Break Free from Acne Scars

As the leading acne scar treatment brand in Malaysia, Hiruscar Post Acne launched its new social education campaign titled “My Skin, My Confidence” in April 21, 2016. The aim of this education campaign is to generate awareness among Malaysians regarding acne scarring and the proper removal of pimples, acne scars or keloid scars. Also, this campaign is to educate fellow Malaysians on the effects of acne scarring on their quality of life, and how they can use this information to take control of their skin condition.

Acne & Acne Scars: A Look At The Numbers

According to research from a recent study in Malaysia, “Over 85% of individuals aged between age 12 to 24 are affected by acne”. In another study by the Journal of Primary Healthcare shows that 67.5% of adults in Malaysia have experienced acne issues, with facial acne occurrences increasingas they age. The report also reveals that acne and pimples are more prevalent among the male demographic aged between 13 to 18. Supporting statistics show that more boys tend to get caught in skin related conditions than girls with a percentage difference of 71.1% to 65.6%

Left untreated, pimples and acne scars can have serious long term effects on a person’s physical, mental and social well-being – ranging from a lack of confidence to even depression, in severe cases. Most of the time, these issues arise from a lack of education among many young adults in the country, who fail to realize that there is a permanent solution to their acne scars, or resort to harmful methods of acne scar removal.

Acknowledging this widespread problem, Hiruscar launched the “My Skin, My Confidence” campaign to inform and educate young Malaysians to take a closer look at the consequences of acne scarring and other skin conditions on their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Explaining the negative implications of acne scars, Dr. Lim Ing Kien, Dermatologist and Founder of Medi-I Skin Studio said, “Facial appearance represents a significant aspect of how one perceives his or her body image, which can cause a major impact affecting the overall quality of life. Acne, or commonly known as pimples, may eventually lead to permanent scarring resulting in scars, keloid scars and darks marks.Without proper care and treatment, the condition may deteriorate and worsen the acne inflammation. It is important to educate the public on how keloid scars take place at different stages and to treat them before it becomes a hindrance, especially for women.”

According to research from the Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CARDI), 90% of Malaysians aged between 13 to 18 perceive acne as a severe problem. Acne scars and keloid scars have a substantial negative impact on the overall social and functional wellbeing of affected individuals. The Psychosocial Impact of Acne and Rosacea also reported that individuals who are suffering from acne have a higher likelihood of developing emotional and psychological problems compared to their peers who don’t.

Low Mi Yen, a clinical psychologist observed that “The relationship between the severity of acne and emotional distress is poorly understood although people are aware that acne can be a source of distress and embarrassment. People who suffer from keloid scars may not feel comfortable attending social gatherings as they tend to be more reserved due to lower self-confidence. The psychosocial effects of pimples can cause substantial negative impacts on one’s overall social and functional well-being, thus affecting their quality of life.”

The Hiruscar Post Acne “My Skin, My Confidence” campaign adopts a unique approach to engage with the consumer and to encourage more Malaysians to take charge of their skin condition. The campaign features engaging & fun activities that are available both on-ground and online to help young adults understand that scars can be permanent if ignored and untreated.

Hiruscar Post Acne is a remarkable acne scar treatment product works to enhance the appearance of existing acne scars, keloid scars, dark marks while preventing the development of new permanent scars arising from acne.

As part of the campaign, Hiruscar Post Acne embarked on a Campus Tour, visiting ten universities around the Klang Valley. A 2 day symposium attended by pharmacists and industry experts also took placein Bangsar and Johor Bahru in support of this cause.
